Following a briefing during which members of the Direct Selling Caucus addressed a core group of industry representatives, Herminio, Juan, and Damaris joined Vice President of Field Development for Spanish Markets Deborah Dixon and Vice President of Corporate Communications Calvin Jolley in a series of meetings to educate legislators on the value of direct selling.
Topics covered the importance of federal legislation to distinguish pyramid schemes from legitimate businesses such as 4Life, the value of 4Life products and the business opportunity, and the importance of independent contractor status for direct sellers around the country.
More than 18.6 million Americans in all 50 states are involved in direct selling, either as customers or as business builders. Industry retail sales represent about $35 billion a year, with $414 million coming from Utah where 4Life Global Headquarters is located.
During the day, Herminio spoke with U.S. Representative John Curtis (R-UT), and Juan and Damaris met with U.S. Representative Mia Love (R-UT). Both Utah representatives sit on the Direct Selling Caucus. Love serves as a Co-Chair on the Nutritional Supplement Caucus, and Curtis also sits on the Nutritional Supplement Caucus.
In addition, Juan and Damaris met with Democrats from Florida and Herminio met with Republicans and Democrats from Georgia.
Deborah Dixon: “Our industry is non-partisan because our issues are non-partisan. It was an honor to participate and listen to our Platinum International Diamonds share their stories. These men and women are among the top leaders in our industry.”
Direct selling is based on a model of quality products, diversity, equal opportunity access, and recognition.
